How effective is your sediment and erosion control plan? Join Jerald S. Fifield Ph.D., PH, CISEC, CPESC and Tina R. Wills, PE, CISEC for the fifth installment of our advanced Sediment and Erosion Control Master Class Series and the first part of our Effective S&EC Plans 2-part mini-series, What Designers and Reviewers Need to Understand and Complete, exploring the problems and challenges of sediment and erosion control plans, and how to develop, review and implement effective sediment and erosion control plans that not only meet local regulations, but are effective in meeting performance goals.

While a sediment and erosion control (S&EC) plan may meet regulatory requirements, it’s useless if it is not effective and cannot be implemented by the contractor. Too often S&EC plans meet local regulatory requirements, but are not practical for the contractor to implement, which often creates noncompliant situations. Designers and reviewers need to incorporate their knowledge of sediment and erosion control methods to develop effective S&EC plans which meet regulation, are practical, and perform once implemented. Effective S&EC plans are those that contractors can implement knowing that designers and reviewers understand BMP limitations, provide sufficient information for timely installation, and take into account that construction sites are dynamic.

Working through Fifield’s best-selling Designing and Reviewing Effective Sediment and Erosion Control Plans (3rd ed.), this fifth module of our Sediment and Erosion Control Master Class Series explores the issues in ineffective sediment and erosion control plans, and presents new S&EC plan development guidelines to overcome these issues. Fifield and Wills present their innovative process of using three to four separate drawings to create effective S&EC plans that are cost effective, logical to implement, and minimize non-compliant situations.
