Your erosion control BMPs meet regulation, but are they practical? Join Jerald S. Fifield, Ph.D., PH, CISEC, CPESC and Tina R. Wills, PE, CISEC for the fourth installment of our advanced Sediment and Erosion Control Master Class Series, Making Erosion Control BMPs Work on Construction Sites, exploring the available erosion control methods and diversion structures, as well as how to develop seed mixtures, calculate fertilizer rates, and evaluate TRMs in drainage channels.

Module 4

Whenever possible, designers and reviewers must identify the timely use of erosion control practices on construction site projects to ensure the generation of sediment is minimized in order to minimize the discharge. However, while erosion control practices are imperative, construction practicality must also exist.

Working through Fifield’s best-selling Designing and Reviewing Effective Sediment and Erosion Control Plans (3rded.), this fourth module of our Sediment and Erosion Control Master Class Series explores the erosion control methods and diversion structures (e.g., slope drains) available to contractors and their limitations, as well as how to develop seed mixtures, calculate fertilizer rates, and evaluate TRMs in drainage channels. Within this discussion, Fifield and Wills discuss how to develop seed mixtures for local climate conditions, what is necessary to calculate fertilizer application rates, the process of reviewing types of mulches, etc. Fifield and Wills also discuss how the use of shear stress values are necessary to select a TRM for drainage channels, as well as reviewing other erosion control practices available to designer, reviewers, and contractors.

Sediment and Erosion Control Master Class Webcast Series
This Making Erosion Control BMPs Work on Construction Sites webcast is the fourth module in our Sediment and Erosion Control Master Class Webcast Series. Currently, we are offering the full Master Class Webcast Series and manual at a discounted rate. If you are interested in purchasing the full Master Class Webcast Series, you can find information and the registration link here.

This webcast is based upon and works through the associated chapters in Jerald S. Fifield’s Designing and Reviewing Effective Sediment and Erosion Control Plans (3rded.), and is presented as an intermediate to advanced exploration of erosion, sediment, and sedimentation. As such, we recommend purchasing the manual Designing and Reviewing Effective Sediment and Erosion Control Plans (3rded.) with the webcast.

* Webcast presentations are scheduled for approximately one hour with a 15-20 minute question and answer session to follow. Webcast may exceed scheduled time.
